When you talk to the employees about his tenure, their faces still light up after his absence of 2 years. They loved working for him, not because he could manage the merchandise well, but because he was a huge employee advocate. He fought the corporate machine so that his employees felt valued.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Your article makes a great point about leadership versus management. At some level in every organization, there MUST be a leader. We are passed over repeatedly left to take care of the actual day to day stuff, maybe because we still have attention spans and a stick with it work ethic.  &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Being downsized in the tech/telecom bust and forced to reposition myself in other industries has done nothing but push me further down the ladder while recent millenial grads more well versed in buzzwords and concepts du jour get pushed higher.  &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Gen X will be forever stuck in middle management and task related functions.  Get used to it.  &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Oh well, we'll all pack up and move to some off the beaten path tropical paradise with our intact inheritances anyway and continue the pursuit of culture, intellectualism and eco friendly adventure. One of the problems with the whole concept of social media (including business and social networking) is the tendency most of us have in painting the networking landscape with one brush. The networks need to be looked at as one of the tools in a successful recruiters arsenal yet each tool has its own purpose or use. I think the networking genie has been let out of the bottle and it is changing not only recruitment and how we all work but the very way the employment process works.</content><link rel='edit'
